Faust acting school asked Filmages to conduct an “Acting for the Screens” workshop for their Stage Group teenage thespians.
In only 2 sessions of 2 hours each, our Creative Director Fred Fred took them from first read to final wrap faster than you can say, “Action!”

Working from an original script by Fred, the students incarnated the ultimate dramatic quandary: "To Act, or not to Act for the Screens", opposing the purist “Shakespearians” against the rebellious avant-gardist "Skyler".
Since this was a bootcamp, not a studio-grade filming, the roles were swapped in between scenes, particularly for the central role of Skyler.
Students quickly learned the film set essentials: performing multiple takes from various angles, acting in full 3D space instead of just facing the audience, finding their light, projecting for the microphone instead of the back row, etc…

And since they were on a break from a classical theatre production, the workshop doubled as a crash course in cult film classics. Keep an eye out for nods to some iconic movies—consider it a cinematic scavenger hunt!

In 2021 the world was a mess, and so was FIF's documentary project on the "Boticelli and his Time - Masterworks from the Uffizi" at the Hong Kong Museum of Art.
Social unrest, global Covid-19 pandemic, and administrative red tape had derailed their earlier plans to focus on the exhibition itself.
So we patiently picked up the pieces and created a new solid narrative for a 60 minute+ documentary that would give a full picture to the project, and give a voice to the different partners and artists involved, including world renown cineast Andrew Lau, pianist Niu Niu, Myriam Yeung, Eason Chan, Renée Fleming, Xuefei Yang, Leon Ko to name only a few.
The quality of the full documentary led it to be broadcast on several Asia cable channels and on Cathay Pacific's in-flight entertainment in Chinese and English.

While preparing to launch Hongkong Land HOME FUND with an initial injection of HK$ 100 million, our long-time client Hongkong Land reached to us to direct a video that would be informative and inspiring.

Filmed in just half a day we quickly blended in with Youth Outreach amazing people to gently steer their boundless energy to create a dynamic yet controlled filming.

Shaheen Sports Club, building character since 1982, celebrated their 35th anniversary partnering with Filmages to pay homage to their youth football and hockey teams.

Our videographers were just getting warmed up as they took to the streets of Mong Kok to visit Shaheen Home Base. Then, with a freshly broken sweat, we got stuck into the action as they battled it out at Adidas Sports Base.

With this tribute we thank the coaches for instilling the spirit of sportsmanship and creativity in the youth, and helping us shed a few ounces at the same time.

What more could a videographer ask for than a chance to run around little ones as they find their feet?

We spent half a day sliding along the floor during a football coaching class to catch these kids' developing motor skills in action.

When working with young children the trick is to manage their unpredictability by being uber prepared in advance. We closely coordinated the shoot with the Little Kickers coaches to ensure we knew how each exercise would unfold, and therefore where our cameras needed to be, whilst avoiding disruption to the class.

During a dress rehearsal, we went behind the scenes of a classic story to capture the energy and excitement of the Faust kids.

The challenge was to quietly capture the magic without interrupting the young artists at work.

Tak Mei Toys called us in to help during the conceptual stage of their new product: Jacob iBear. 

Filmages took the opportunity to develop a video that would bring all of Jacob iBear's features to life to stand out to their customers. You need more than a powerpoint presentation to informative as well as entertain your audience.

A combination of cinematography, motion graphics, voice over and some adorable children created a video that could stand on it's own during an internal or external presentation.

How do you pack so much information in a 30 secondes commercial, made to attract kids as well as parents in Hong Kong taxis?

Rule of thumb: Less is more. Part of the information is in the animation, the style, the rhythm, not always in the words.

With the need to promote both the paper and the digital version of their newspapers for children, we resorted to a mix of interview, motion graphics, and of course adorable little faces.

For this presentation video, we were briefed to create a dynamic and informative video for this charity.
Their aim is to create as many aspiring directors, camera operators and video editors for tomorrow. So of course, this is a project very close to our heart!
This project gave us the opportunity to use different techniques, allowing us to flex our creative muscles.and adopt techniques we wouldn’t have the opportunity to!

Platinum Winner - AVA Awards 2013

Continuing its support for Matthieu Ricard’s global humanitarian organization, Karuna Shechen, Filmages produced a short documentary featuring the low-cost, high-educational impact of Bamboo Schools.

The goal of the Bamboo Schools project is to bring education to children from disadvantaged communities in Nepal. Beginning in 2000, the project now operates 8 Bamboo Schools, of which 3 have been built with Karuna Shechen’s financial aid, providing free education to around 15,000 students.

The film follows the initiator of this project explaining his life’s mission, and how, with a little help from some friends, he can change the future for many Nepalese children.

Ask anyone who speaks English, as a first or second language, and you'll know how fickle it can be.

But not only did we have to produce that video through complex approval process: We also had to produce 19 different language versions, with VO, Subtitles, and On-screen texts, inculding Arabic, Italian, Korean, German, Spanish (Spain + Latin America), Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Russian, Japanese, French, and Portuguese.

Talk about winning the polyglottery!

In the age of attention deficit hyperactivity disorders, 140 max-character IMs, and 15-seconds video clips, watching a 12-minute long documentary might seem like a sizeable task. But there are people who dedicate their lives to saving others, and that doesn't happen in a snap.
Hong Kong University - Pasteur Research Centre needed a corporate documentary to present their latest activities and appeal for research sponsorship. Filmages created a whole set of communication materials, including a brochure, a website, and a 12-minute long video.
This enabled HKU-PRC to secure an endowment fund and further contribute to the fight against infectious diseases.

We also produced a full scale exhibition at HKU Museum and Art Galleries (UMAG) "From the Plague to new Emerging Diseases"
